Are you dreaming of starting a business? I certainly was. As a developer, I wanted to create my own product, and I worked imagining that someday it would be helpful to many people. However, as I started my business on my own, I encountered a huge obstacle called marketing .
Until now, I thought that code and systems alone would be sufficient, but I realized that no matter how outstanding a product is, it is meaningless if people do not know about it . Therefore, as a developer, I would like to share my experiences studying and applying marketing firsthand. If you are a developer preparing to start a business, I hope this post serves as an opportunity to look at marketing in a new light.
The reason I started learning marketing
Why would I want to promote my product?
At first, the word "marketing" felt unfamiliar. I thought that for a developer, code and functionality were important, and that promoting and advertising to people was something far removed from me. However, after giving it some thought, I realized that the products we create are ultimately designed for people . In other words, making the product known to the world is a part of that process.
As I became interested in marketing, I began learning practical approaches rather than theoretical concepts through the book *The Marketing Architect*. For example, the concept of a "funnel" refers to the process of designing the steps involved in a customer's journey from first encountering a product to becoming interested and eventually using it. It is like the entire flow of starting to watch a favorite webtoon, becoming interested, and eventually subscribing to it. This concept was easy to understand because it is similar to the user flow commonly dealt with in software development.
