The reason founders can't tell their own stories

🫑 3-Line Summary

•
The core of an IR deck for attracting investment is not simple technology or market data, but the human narrative that shows why the founder is solving this problem.
•
Founders are trapped in a complex context spanning five years, making it difficult to reconstruct their own narratives from an outsider's perspective; consequently, they often omit their own story, which is actually their most powerful starting point.
•
Good IR is not about playing the role of a perfect hero who has accomplished everything, but about clearly identifying gaps and explaining why capital and networks are needed, thereby creating a space for investors to contribute as mentors.

🥦 Insight

•
Revealing the Founder's True Face Hidden Behind the Slides
It is difficult to win over investors with flawless technical stories and competitor analysis alone. If you are a planner or an entrepreneur, you must naturally infuse your unique, sharp critical perspective and authentic story—hidden behind vast amounts of data—into the entire deck.
•
Putting investors in the position of mentors, not heroes
The moment investors open their wallets is not when they marvel at a perfect solution, but when they see a narrative that they can grow the company by adding that crucial touch. When preparing a pitch, it is important to clearly express your passion for which partner you want to go with, rather than just boasting about how great your company is.
•
The Value of Reconstructing One's Own Narrative Beyond Pitching Skills
The essence of IR coaching and design refinement is ultimately the process of interpreting the message the founder wants to convey to the world through this business into the language of outsiders. It requires a solid build-up that re-objectifies your natural starting point and aligns the product's vision with your own direction to the next level.

🥄 A Spoonful of Action. Open the IR deck or service introduction you are currently working on. Have you left any gaps or areas for compelling questions where investors can come in and contribute? Instead of shouting that our service is perfect today, I suggest you honestly define the gaps and what kind of partners you want to grow with.

While working in business development and investment review, I think I saw hundreds of presentation sessions and slides for licensing, as well as IR pitches for attracting investment.
At some point, a pattern began to appear.
In Korea, since licensing out is the primary business model for the biotech industry, licensing decks and investment decks are often produced in a somewhat confusing manner.
This needs to be separated.
