Book Review

•
I am currently in the process of a lawsuit against a scammer.
This is because I entered into a partnership agreement with someone who approached me by concealing their identity and impersonating another person, and I suffered damages as a result.
The swindler who claims to be innocent said.
There is a reason why I did not reveal my real name. I am a well-known figure in the venture industry, and if I were to hold meetings or sign contracts under my real name, there would be many people trying to profit by exploiting my name, so I had no choice but to operate under someone else's name.
As I read this book, I realized something. That con artist had a 'standard' that impersonating others for his own benefit was not morally problematic.
•
Since moral standards are subjective, they inevitably differ from person to person. Furthermore, these standards manifest differently when applied to others compared to when applied to oneself.
Some people may demand stricter standards from me than from others, and others may demand stricter standards from others than from me.
These personal standards gradually sway toward the wrong path through 'self-rationalization.' This can be contagious from the surrounding environment, and after committing a wrongful act once, one may continue to repeat the behavior without feeling any pangs of conscience.
•
📖 This book explains how lies and misconduct, both big and small, as seen in various cases, can cause social and personal problems.
The corruption rampant in our society,
◦
Employee who takes company supplies for personal use
◦
Taxi driver's rip-off
◦
Manipulation of working (commute) times and fraudulent receipt of annual leave allowances by corporate workers and public officials
◦
Subjective stock price forecast reports from the securities industry (interpreted in a way favorable to the company, not the client)
◦
Researchers' experimental results report (derived results by selectively extracting only data favorable to project performance)
◦
A college student who lies, saying, "My grandmother passed away," to skip class or delay submitting a report
◦
Fake degrees and resume manipulation
◦
Exaggeration and boasting about oneself
◦
Cheating on various exams
◦
Illegal downloading of content
If you look closely at these negative behaviors, they are things that anyone has likely done at least once, whether intentionally or unintentionally.
Ultimately, it means that all humans have lived by committing wrongdoing, and will inevitably continue to do so in the future.
•
The author of this book states that we must overcome such human folly and restore morality. He argues that if we understand more systematically what actually causes inappropriate behavior, we can find ways to control our actions and correct our flaws.
In order not to become a bad person,
In order to avoid being harmed by bad people,
I think this book is absolutely essential.
